Royal congratulations to new S'pore president

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to send a congratulatory message to Dr Tony Tan on the occasion of his appointment as the President of the Republic of Singapore.

In the message, His Majesty said he is confident that under Dr Tony's stewardship and valuable experience in government, Republic of Singapore will continue to prosper in the coming years.

His Majesty stated that relations between Brunei Darussalam and Republic of Singapore have always been warm and close and have progressed significantly in various fields. His Majesty looked forward for continuing his work with Dr Tony in further developing the much-valued excellent relations.

His Majesty ended his message by wishing Dr Tony much success in his new post and for his continued good health and prosperity.

Meanwhile, in a message to former President of Singapore, S R Nathan, His Majesty said, "I wish to convey my warm wishes on your retirement as President of the Republic of Singapore. It has indeed been a pleasure working with you during your term in office.

"Under your leadership, the close friendship and excellent bilateral ties between our two countries continued to prosper. We much value our relations with Singapore and look forward to more opportunities to strengthen these important relations.

"I am also grateful for the friendship and wisdom that you have so generously shared over the years. We were indeed very happy to receive you and Mrs SR Nathan during your State Visit in 2004. Your personal commitment and dedication have helped to further the bond of friendship between us.

"With my very best wishes for your continued good health, prosperity and success in all your future undertakings," His Majesty added. - Borneo Bulletin (2nd September 2011)
