Sultan pays respects to late parents at Royal Mausoleum

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam yesterday paid respects to his late parents with a tahlil at the Royal Mausoleum in Jalan Tutong.

Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince Haji 'Abdul 'Azim, His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.

On hand to welcome His Majesty and members of the royal family at the Royal Mausoleum were the Acting Minister of Religious Affairs, Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar and permanent secretaries.

Also present were Cabinet Ministers, deputy ministers, permanent secretaries, senior government officials, members of the State Legislative Council and state dignitaries.

Personnel from the Adat Istiadat Department were also present carrying decorative swords, artillery, shields and other royal regalias as a symbol of ever-lasting tradition of the royal heritage.

The tahlil was led by State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Hj Awg Abd Aziz bin Juned.

His Majesty and members of the royal family poured the 'Ayer Asah-Asahan' (scented water) on the tomb of Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien and Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit.

Meanwhile, at the grounds of the Royal Mausoleum, some 2,000 well-wishers had gathered from as early as 11.30am to catch a glimpse of their beloved monarch. - Borneo Bulletin (6th September 2011)
