Crown Prince awards prizes

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office yesterday consented to present prizes to winners of the Inter-Ministry Golf Tournament held in conjunction with the 18th Civil Service Day.

His Royal Highness was greeted upon arrival by the Minister of Development, Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman and members of the Executive Committee.

Following the arrival, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince cut a cake in conjunction with His Royal Highness's 38th birthday celebration.

The annual prestigious tournament was held at the Royal Brunei Golf and Country Club and hosted by the Ministry of Development.With a total of 575 points, the Prime Minister's Office emerged as champions at the Inter-Ministry Golf Tournament in its 18th edition. They won the 'Champions Challenge Trophy of His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office'. The team was represented by Haji Sahminan bin Haji Damit, A/SGT Haji Mat Din bin Haji Mat Yassin, Awg Nujaimi Haji Matnor, Haji Razak Anggas, DCP Bahrin Mohd Noor, Haji Bustamam Abang, Han Kiew Kwang and Haji Zakaria bin Haji Mat Nor.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence came in second place with 578 points and comprised LT Diny Haji Karim, PW1 (U) Haji Kuswady Pungut, CIV Tony Haji Karim, KPL (U) MD Azmi Ashadi, LTC (U) Lusir Sian, KPL Shari Haji Makop, LKPL (U) Zunaidi Tuah and Rozaimi Haji Ahmad.

The Ministry of Home Affairs won third place with 580 points and was represented by Ali Rashid, Seruji Haji Setia, Haji Norismadi Haji Md Tamit, Wahid Haji Anggas, Haji Hamidon bin Haji Damit, Azmie Julaihi, Kilali Haji Munchit and Haji Omar bin Haji Asmat.

In the VIP category, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Halbi Hj Md Yusof, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, claimed the winner's trophy with 76 points while Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abd Wahab bin Juned, Deputy Minister at Prime Minister's Office and Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awg Othman, Minister of Home Affairs, came in second and third places respectively with 81 and 97 points.

For the Best Gross, Seruji Haji Setia collected 74 points and topped the category while Abd Kadir Hj Ghani and Tony Haji Karim came in second and third respectively. In the Best Nett, the trophy was claimed by Seruji Hj Setia while the runner-up and first runner-up spots went to Ali bin Haji Rashid and Haji Sahminan Haji Damit. Winners in the novelties category also received their trophies. Some 200 golfers comprising government officers, staff and 12 ministers took part in the event. The objective of the tournament was to foster closer ties amongst officers and staff of the civil service communities and served to strengthen one's physical strength, mind, concentration and capabilities to meet challenges in their respective participating categories.

Before leaving, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince took a group photo with the organising committee and had for a 'junjung ziarah' with golfers that participated in the tournament. - Borneo Bulletin (20th February 2012)
