Grand banquet to mark Royal Wedding
Siti Hajar

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha consented to host hundreds of distinguished guests for a royal banquet at the Istana Nurul Iman last night to celebrate one of the most memorable moments in the country's history.

Dressed in their finest whites and suits customary to the traditional palace ceremonies reserved for some of the most special occasions, senior government officials were given the unique opportunity to meet the newly-wed royal couple.

Making their way into the opulent Balai Persantapan, Istana Nurul Iman where they were greeted by some of the most respected individuals in the country, including foreign dignitaries as well as current and former ministers, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah looked elegant in a grey and silver traditional attire whilst Their Majesties looked on. HRH Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah and YAM Pengiran Anak Haji Muhammad Ruzaini bin Pengiran Dr Haji Mohd Yakub were the centre of attention.

Walking side-by-side, the royal couple and those who were present were all smiles during the event as the atmosphere in the dining hall was full of excitement against a backdrop of chandeliers that provided the right kind of ambiance, fresh flowers arranged into table centre pieces, and live music performed by expert hands while the guests enjoyed a lavish spread.

As the night came to a close, many from those who were invited to the palace were seen gathered at the entrance of the Balai Persantapan, Istana Nurul Iman just before the red carpet to take photos of the royal family and their guests as they made their exit.

Just outside as guests were preparing to leave, a fireworks display against a velvet night sky took hold of the evening as the colours of red, blue and yellow eloquently marked a chapter that will always be remembered. - Borneo Bulletin (24 September 2012)
