His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam proceeded to tour the local Bumiputra company, Adinin Works & Engineering (AWE) at its office in Sungai Bera Industrial Site yesterday following the house key plaque awarding ceremony at Pusat Insani and toured three schools in Seria.

His Majesty was greeted on arrival at the company by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, Dyg Hjh Normah Suria Hayati binti PJDSMDSU (Dr) Hj Awg Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri; the Chairman of AWE, Hj Adnin bin Pehin Dato Hj Ibrahim; and the Managing Director of AWE, Hj Musa bin Hj Adnin.

During the visit, His Majesty consented to tour an exhibition displaying the company's development, progress and status of projects that had been undertaken. His Majesty was also invited to the company's Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Training room to have a closer look at the trainings and courses developed.

AWE was established in 1980 and is a member of the Adinin Group of Companies (AGC). The company has grown from a modest machinery business to one of the country's most professional and successful mechanical contractors. It possesses the capacity to carry out major projects such as fabrication of offshore structures, maintenance of plants and EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contracts.

AWE has the distinction of being the first local company to have successfully performed an EPC project for the Industrial Gas Terminal and fabricated Containerised Equipment Rooms, offshore platforms and living quarter for Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) in Brunei Darussalam.

His Majesty then proceeded to visit the residence of the Village Head of Kg Lumut II, Awg Abd Rahman bin Hashim where His Majesty viewed an exhibition of the village products and a display of the Village Consultative Council's recent activities.

Awg Abd Rahman was elected village head in 2008 and is heading Kg Sungai Kayu Ara, Kg Sungai Tali and Kg Sungai Taring, with a total of 6,119 residents.

Following the visit to the village head's residence, His Majesty proceeded to the 'Showcase' terrace house for the Lumut/Sungai Liang National Housing Scheme at Jalan Sungai Kecil Bakong Selatan. Construction for the proposed 180 terrace housing units commenced early last year. With a contract sum of B$13,393,579.97, the project is scheduled for completion in July this year. The main contractor for this development is Thong and Thong Sdn Bhd.

His Majesty also visited the houses of Awg Hasrolnijam bin Hj Ibrahim and Awg Othman bin Abd Rahman at the Lumut/Sungai Liang National Housing Scheme.

Awg Hasrolnijam said his application for housing was made in 2003. The 33-year-old Assistant Officer at the Ministry of Religious Affairs is married with two children.

Meanwhile, Awg Othman, 38, a Royal Brunei Air Force personnel applied for the housing scheme in 1995 and is now married with two children.

Both recipients of the detached houses shared their gratitude towards His Majesty's Government for granting the housing scheme and said they appreciated His Majesty's consent to visit their houses. - Borneo Bulletin (6 May 2012)
