COLOURFUL performances took centre stage in the capital yesterday at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien to enliven the 67th birthday celebrations of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

The performances were divided into three scenarios. The first of which kicked off as the opening act with a musical intro to begin a sketch that utilised props and smooth movement to symbolise the concept of “Merafak Sembah Menjunjung Kasih”. This was then followed by a choir performance of the song, “Sejambak Kasih Sekalong Bunga”, by 67 male and female participants from Berakas Secondary School.

The second scenario saw a choir performance of “Rahmat”, a song in which the singers wished His Majesty a happy birthday, extending their appreciation to the monarch for his leadership and many other qualities.

The choir comprised 40 student participants from Seri Mulia Sarjana Secondary School.

Preceding this vocal performance was a resounding of hadrahs by students of Menglait Secondary School and the creative team, while carrying out special movements.

The third scenario was where the grand finale took place with a performance by a specially selected choir, entitled “Merafak Sembah Menjunjung Kasih”, which was accompanied by synchronised movements and variations mixed with skits and props, before ending with the fall of confettis.

The performance part of yesterday’s proceedings was then concluded with the resounding of “Daulat Kebawah Duli Tuan Patik” three times. - Borneo Bulletin (30 September 2013)
