His Majesty at Brunei Open Swimming Championship

HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday consented to attend the 3rd Brunei Open Swimming Championship to watch HRH Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel competing in the heats event at the swimming pool of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex.

His Majesty was accompanied by HRH Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, HRH Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah, HRH Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah, HRH Prince ‘Abdul Muntaqim and HRH Princess Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah.

HRH Prince ‘Abdul Muntaqim also competed in three heats events yesterday.

His Majesty was greeted upon arrival by the Acting Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Datin Paduka Hajah Adina binti Othman.

His Majesty’s presence highlighted the monarch’s attention to the development of swimming.

More than 40 swimmers competed in HRH Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel’s event.

A total of 138 swimmers including 19 swimmers from Miri, Sarawak are taking part in the three- day competition.

ISB Hammerheads, Dolphin Swimming Club, Micia Swimming Team, Miri Amateur Swimming Association, Royal Brunei Recreation Club, Gymkhana Club Miri, Jerudong Swimming Club, Brunei Speed Swimming Club and Panaga Stingrays are the teams represented in the competition, which will end tomorrow (November 16).

The competition is organised by the Brunei Amateur Swimming Association (BASA) and supported by the Department of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. - Borneo Bulletin (15 November 2014)
