Sultan launches ‘Adat’ exhibition

HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday launched the ‘Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien – The Pre-Eminent Figure in Customs and Traditions throughout the Ages Exhibition’ at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.

This was but one of the highlights following the Proclamation Ceremony for the Pre-Eminent Figure in Customs and Traditions throughout the Ages.

The day marked the promulgation of Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien as the pre-eminent figure of Adat Istiadat, while the exhibition showcases the historic achievements notched by Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien pertaining to Adat Istiadat in the country.

Deemed the Architect of Modern Brunei, the 28th Sultan of Brunei is not only responsible for the modernisation of the country, but had also spent a significant amount of time during his reign on developing customs and traditions that the nation practises till this very day.

The day saw His Majesty and members of the royal family viewing the exhibits, which included numerous artifacts including the chronological history of Adat Istiadat developments – among which were copies of His Majesty’s titah at the inauguration of the Adat Istiadat Course on June 22, 1968, as well as Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien’s sabda at the same event.

Meanwhile, by consent of His Majesty, the Working Committee on the Exhibition and Publishing of Special Books is pleased to announce that the ‘Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, the Pre-Eminent Figure in Customs and Traditions throughout the Ages Exhibition,’ organised by the Office of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, which was held during The Proclamation Ceremony for the Pre-Eminent Figure in Customs and Traditions throughout the Ages, on the occasion of Adat Istiadat Day 2014, will be open to members of the public for two weeks effective yesterday.

Members of the public and students are welcome to visit the exhibition from 9am to 5pm daily, except for Fridays when the visiting hours will be from 9am to 11am and from 2.30pm to 5pm. - Borneo Bulletin (1 April 2014)
