His Majesty awards winners of National Tug-of-War Competition

AS TUTONG celebrated the 68th birthday of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday, the monarch consented to present prizes to the winners of the National Tug-of-War Competition 2014.

Before presenting the prizes, His Majesty and the royal entourage consented to watch the final match of the competition’s Category ‘B’ (heavyweight).

In the category’s final match, the Brunei-Muara District team defeated the competing team from the Tutong District, scoring six points after two rounds. In the first round, the Tutong team appeared to have the advantage, before the Brunei-Muara team showed a surge of strength to win the first round after 21 seconds, earning their first three points.

The Brunei-Muara team once again prevailed in the second round, defeating the Tutong team after 13 seconds, earning themselves another three points.

For their efforts, the Brunei-Muara team was named the winner of Category B (heavyweight) and won the Piala Pusingan Kurnia Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Perdana Wazir Sahibul Himmah Wal-Waqar Pengiran Muda Mohamed Bolkiah, as well as $2,000 cash, a trophy and individual medals.

The second-placed Tutong team was awarded a cash prize of $1,500, a trophy and medals.

In addition to presenting the prizes for the winners of Category ‘B’, His Majesty also consented to present prizes to the winners of Category ‘A’.

The Brunei-Muara team won the category, earning the Piala Pusingan Kurnia Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Perdana Wazir Sahibul Himmah Wal-Waqar Pengiran Muda Mohamed Bolkiah as well as $2,000 in cash and medals. - Borneo Bulletin (20 August 2014)
