HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha on Sunday arrived in New York, United States of America where the monarch will attend the 69th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN).

Accompanying Their Majesties are His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Muta-Wakkilah Hayatul Bolkiah and Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah, according to a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.

Present at the John F Kennedy International Airport to greet Their Majesties were Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II and Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Ghafar bin Haji Ismail, Permanent Representative of Brunei Darussalam to the United Nations and his wife.

Their Majesties proceeded to the New York Palace Hotel where Their Majesties will stay during the UN General Assembly. Their Majesties were welcomed by David Chase, the hotel’s manager.

Their Majesties are also accompanied to the US by Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim, Minister of Finance II at the Prime Minister’s Office.

This year, the President of the UN General Assembly is Sam Kutesa, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Uganda, who will be presiding over the General Debate.

The theme for the UN General Assembly is “Delivering on and Implementing a Transformative post-2015 Development Agenda”. This year marks the 30th year Brunei Darussalam is a member of the UN. - Borneo Bulletin (23 September 2014)
