Sultan arrives in Myanmar for three-day State Visit

HIS Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, yesterday arrived in Nay Pyi Taw, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar for a three-day State Visit.

Present at the Nay Pyi Taw International Airport to greet His Majesty were U Wunna Maung Lwin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar; Dr Aung Kyaw Myat, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology (as Minister-In-Attendance to His Majesty); Daw Yin Yin Myint, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to Brunei Darussalam; as well as other senior officers from the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

His Majesty then consented to pass through a static guard before boarding the motorcade to travel to the hotel where His Majesty will stay throughout the State Visit.

Also present was Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Pahlawan Colonel (Rtd) Dato Paduka Hj Abdu’r Rahmani bin Dato Paduka Hj Basir, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

From the Nay Pyi Taw International Airport, His Majesty consented to proceed to the Aureum Palace Hotel where His Majesty will reside during the State Visit. On arrival at the hotel, His Majesty was welcomed by the Hotel Manager, Aung Myint Htun.

Accompanying His Majesty to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar were Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim, Minister of Finance II at the Prime Minister’s Office; Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II; and Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Seri Pahlawan Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.

Some 1,000 students waved the flags of both countries around the Nay Pyi Taw International Airport, welcoming the State Visit of His Majesty.

Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of the Union of Myanmar enjoy close relation since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries on September 21, 1993.

Earlier yesterday in Brunei Darussalam, before His Majesty departed from Istana Nurul Iman, a Doa Selamat was read by Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.

Present at His Majesty The Sultan’s Flight Hangar to bid farewell to His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel; and Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah; as well as other members of the royal family.

Also present at the hangar were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Cheterias; the Speaker of the Legislative Council; Cabinet Ministers; Members of Privy Council; Deputy Ministers; Acting Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces; the Commissioner of Police; and Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Brunei Darussalam. - Borneo Bulletin (25 March 2014)
