Royalty graces Girl Guides awards ceremony

HER Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah yesterday graced the prize presentation of the Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam’s (PPPBD) Nationwide Al-Quran Recital Competition 2014 at the Main Conference Hall of the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.

Upon the arrival of HRH, the ceremony initiated with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah by PPPBD’s Spiritual Commissioner, Dyg Hjh Fatimah Hj Abd Ghani followed with the welcoming address by the Chief Commissioner Dyg Hjh Siti Hafsah Hj Abd Halim.

Prior to the presentation of prizes, the ceremony also saw champions from the five categories namely Brownies, Girl Guides/Ranger Guides, Young Leader, Adult Leader and Council/Commissioner Categories, followed by a performance by the Girl Guides of the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Girls Arabic Secondary School.

In the Brownies category, Dyg Jihan Mutawakillah Hj Latif emerged as the champion while Dk Alma Hazirah Pg Jofri and Dyg Siti Nur Ehsani Kamaliah Abdullah were champions in the Ranger Guides and Young Leader categories respectively.

Meanwhile, Dk Fauziah Nadhirah Pg Hj Jofri won the Adult Leader Category and Dyg Norliham Hj Tuah won the Council/Commissioner category.

Following a performance by SUAMPRIPAD Girl Guides’, HRH then presented the prizes to the winners and judges of the competition and the ceremony concluded with a stage performance by Girl Guides of the Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Masna Secondary School and Doa Selamat.

The ceremony yesterday served as part of the association’s annual activity where the competition’s main objectives were to encourage its members to have the penchant to deepen, learn and improve their respective Al-Quran recitation quality, to meet His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s vision in having his subjects to be well versed in Al-Quran.

The competition initially was carried out at district levels by the association to select representatives for each district and the final was hosted by the Brunei-Muara District last May 25. - Borneo Bulletin (31 May 2014)
