HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam visited Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Husain, as part of a whole-day excursion throughout the Brunei-Muara District, to the delight of its students and teachers who called it a memorable event.

His Majesty was greeted upon arrival by the Principal, Zarina binti Hj Kadir, alongside the teaching staff and students of SM Sayyidina Hussain as well as a welcoming performance by the secondary school’s Hadrah team.

In an interview with Hjh Norinah binti Hj Mokkim, the Assistant Principal said, “This was an opportunity for the school to show our gratitude to His Majesty.”

She also mentioned that it was His Majesty’s third visit to the academic institution.

Since its officiation by Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Hj Awg Abdul Aziz bin Begawan Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Seri Paduka Hj Awg Umar on May 9, 1994, the school has grown to accommodate 1,205 students supported by a total of 147 education officers, teachers and support staff members.

During the tour, His Majesty consented to interact with some of the students and teachers.

Aisman Dasuki bin Mohamad, a student from the class of Year 9 Motivasi, said that he felt joyous when he was asked about his favourite sport by His Majesty.

His Majesty also consented to visit some of the classes which showcased some of the activities available for the students to take part in.

The school also showcased some of its other activities, such as culinary arts, a tailoring class, religious activities, an art gallery and many more.

The tour ended with His Majesty consenting to a group photo with the students and faculty members of SM Sayyidina Husain, followed by a visit to the school’s administration building. - Borneo Bulletin (3 June 2014)
