Sultan upbeat on KL role in promoting peace

PUTRAJAYA – His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday expressed confidence in Malaysia’s contribution to the promotion of international peace and security as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Bernama reported.

According to a joint statement issued in conjunction with the 18th Annual Leaders’ Consultation between Malaysia and Brunei in Putrajaya, Malaysia, His Majesty congratulated Prime Minister Dato Laila Utama Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak for Malaysia’s success in winning the UNSC seat.

“His Majesty congratulated the Prime Minister of Malaysia on Malaysia’s successful election as a non-permanent member of the UNSC for the term 2015-2016.

“On behalf of the Government of Malaysia, the Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the invaluable support given to Malaysia by Brunei Darussalam,” the statement said.

His Majesty also expressed his best wishes and full support for Dato Laila Utama Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib in conjunction with Malaysia assuming the chairmanship of Asean next year.

The two leaders reaffirmed the importance of Asean and its centrality, and looked forward to the historic establishment of the Asean Community in 2015 under the Malaysian chairmanship, said the statement. - Borneo Bulletin (4 November 2014)
