HRH Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, lauded this year’s theme of the National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Adults 1435H/2014M Finals, “Al-Quran as the Saviour of the World and Hereafter”, which shows the desire and effort of the nation to implement the Syariah Penal Code Order 2013.

Delivering his sabda at the opening night of the National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Adults 1435H/2014M Finals last night, HRH the Crown Prince highlighted the importance of the Syariah Penal Code as it is based on Al-Quran and As-Sunnah which are sanctioned by Allah the Almighty. HRH added that we should make it a shield and platform towards maintaining the tranquility of the Muslim Ummah due to its relevance to all of the earth’s inhabitants.

HRH the Crown Prince said Muslims are required to study Al-Quran and explore its hidden secrets, but in order to understand Al-Quran, we are required to follow the guidance of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jama’ah by means of Talaqqi or face to face with an Ulama (scholar) because learning through this method will prevent misguidance from the true interpretation.

“This is very important because there are already deviant teachings that misuse the interpretations of the Quran. In fact now we have witnessed the emergence of heretical ideologies and contemporary ways of thinking that contradicts with our beliefs.

“These stem from thoughts and interpretations that do not follow the true knowledge of guidance.

“Alhamdulillah, in this country, reading Al-Quran has become part of our culture among the Muslim society which should be protected and passed down from generation to generation so it will permanently be the holy eminence of this blessed land.”

In relation to this, HRH the Crown Prince expressed his appreciation for the involvement and participation of students and youths, particularly in major events at the national level such as Khatam Al-Quran ceremony in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s birthday anniversary, in line with the country’s aspiration to become a ‘Zikir Nation’.

HRH the Crown Prince saw the need to preserve the values of Al-Quran in our daily life and to safeguard our society as well as to continuously recite and make Al-Quran as guidance in life for the benefit of now and the hereafter.

With such effort, HRH believes that Brunei Darussalam will remain blessed as mentioned in the Quran “Baldatun Tayyibatun Warabbun Ghafuur”, a safe and prosperous country whose people are blessed and forgiven by Allah the Almighty. - Borneo Bulletin (9 April 2014)
