As part of the 59th birthday celebrations of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, a "Royal Concert" will be held at Jerudong Park Amphitheatre involving well-known artistes from Brunei and Malaysia.
This was disclosed by the chairman of the organising committee of the Fireworks Display and Decoration, Pehin Dato Haji Awang Abdul Hapidz.
Thirty-seven companies and individuals yesterday contributed $78,000 for the upcoming fireworks display and concert.
Present as the guest of honour to receive the donations was the Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Dato Haji Awang Adanan, who is also the chairman of the organising committee for His Majesty's 59th birthday celebration.
Pehin Dato Haji Awang Abdul Hapidz said the Royal Concert will be held on August 5 at Jerudong Park Amphitheatre and is a result of the cooperation between Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB) and Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM).
Some of the well-known artistes from both countries will take part in the concert, he added.
Meanwhile, the hoisting of the giant national flag will take place on July 1 at the open area of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation Complex.
The flag raising ceremony will also mark the beginning of the display of national flags throughout the four districts in conjunction with the birthday celebration of His Majesty the Sultan.
A full dress rehearsal will be held on June 30 for the flag raising ceremony.
It is expected that the ceremony will be held in the presence of the members of the organising committee for the birthday celebration as well as senior government officers, Penghulus and Ketua-ketua Kampong.
With the backdrop of Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque and the picturesque capital, the ceremony, which has now become a significant event towards marking His Majesty's birthday celebration, will be followed in all the four districts.
The chief guest will hand over the national flag to all the district officers.
One of the biggest contributions made towards His Majesty's birthday celebration came from Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP), Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd (BLNG), Brunei Shell Tankers Sdn Bhd (BST) and Brunei Shell Marketing Company Sdn Bhd (BSM) amounting to $30,000. Haji Mohd Zaini bin Haji Awg Omar, External Adviser of Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) on behalf of the four joint-venture companies handed over the cheque to the guest of honour.
Some of the 37 companies and individuals that contributed were Hua Ho Department Store & Hua Ho Agriculture Sdn Bhd with $5,000; Abdul Razak Holdings, Goh Hock Kee Motor, Ideal Multifeed Farm, Gadong Properties, Galfar Pembinaan & Perusahaan (B) Sdn Bhd and NBT (B) Sdn Bhd with $3000 each; Lim Tech Hoo Holdings and Ang Swee Chuan contributed $2,500 each; POK Ratna Setia Dato Paduka Hj Awg Abd Hapidz bin POK Laksamana Hj Awg Abd Razak, Jackson Ting, Nazeer Ahmad and Happy Motoring Sdn Bhd contributed $2,000 each.
Later in the afternoon, after the handing over of contributions, a meeting was held by the Fireworks Display and Decorations committee to discuss preparations that are needed to ensure the success of His Majesty's 59th birthday celebration.
