Royal Wedding gets global media coverage

The Royal Wedding of HRH Crown Prince Pg Muda Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah and HRH Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah attracted worldwide interest with about 200 foreign media personnel from all over the world covering the historic event.

The foreign journalists represented most of the major wire service agencies, newspapers and broadcasting agencies from countries such as Japan, United Kingdom, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, France, Hong Kong, Germany, Spain, Korea and Switzerland. Wire services such as Reuters, The Associated Press and Deutsche Press-Agentur transmitted coverage of the Royal "Bersanding" Ceremony and the Royal Procession all over the world which was received by other news agencies.

Malaysia's TV3 sent a seven-man crew to cover the momentous occasion. CNN telecast the Royal "Bersanding" ceremony live thus capturing a wider international viewing audience.

The Royal Wedding was also telecast to viewers in Asia, Europe and America by Hong Kong Pheonix TV Channel, the sister company of Hong Kong Star TV and dubbed by some as the Chinese CNN.

This marked the first time that two Brunei-born Chinese, namely TP Ting who is a renowned architect, and Chiew Chee Phoong, former Deputy Chief Editor of Asia Chinese Weekly Magazine and currently a lecturer in Shantou University of China, were invited to join Phoenix TV to report on the Royal Wedding live.

The special Royal programme, depicting age-old wedding traditions, was coordinated by Soh Lai Huat of IMG company, and according to Pheonix Channel captured the interest of millions of Chinese viewers throughout the world.

A newspaper in Singapore called the Royal Wedding Asia's Wedding of the Year. The foreign media noted that the Royal Wedding was "the biggest event in Asia for 2004". - Borneo Bulletin
