Everything set for Royal Wedding
By M K Anwar

The culmination of the Royal Wedding between His Royal Highness Crown Prince Pg Muda Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah and Dayangku Sarah Pg Salleh Ab Rahaman will reach its peak on September 9 with the "Bersanding" ceremony and the procession around the capital.

Brunei will be the centre of attention with a large number foreign photographers, journalists and reporters registering to cover this historical event.

So far more than 100 media personnel and representatives from most of the major publishing and broadcasting agencies from all over the world have applied for media accreditation.

These does not include the media that will be accompanying other invited guests arriving in the country to attend the wedding.

The Bulletin was informed that foreign media coming to Brunei include those from Japan, United Kingdom, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, France, Hong Kong, Germany, Spain, Korea and Switzerland.

They represent most of the major news wire service agencies, newspapers and broadcasting agencies. With the involvement of wire services such as Reuters, The Associated Press and Deutsche Press-Agentur, the coverage for the "Bersanding" ceremony and the procession that follows will be transmitted all over the world and received by other news agencies.

Some foreign media have already arrived in the country. It is estimated that about 200 media representatives will be covering the event that day.

A Media Centre has started operating at Centrepoint Hotel and this will hopefully assist the foreign media in covering the ceremony.

To accommodate the facilitation of coverage and publication of the event, the Information and Communication Committee was set up and chaired by Pehin Dato Paduka Hj Awang Hazair, Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office. The Borneo Bulletin and Media Permata were also extended the privilege of being a member of the committee. - Borneo Bulletin
